View a MapLake Cave is the deepest of the open caves in the Margaret River region—small, magical, and otherworldly. Hidden beneath a sunken forest, this dazzling chamber features towering crystal formations, mirrored reflections, and a peaceful lake that holds the silence of time itself.
To reach the entrance, you’ll descend into an ancient doline—an enormous sinkhole fringed with karri trees that tower above as you wind your way down the stairs. From the floor of this sunken forest, the cave’s entrance awaits.
Guided tours take you through this breathtaking underground space, where droplets fall from slender straws and stalactites, creating ripples across the still waters. The famous Suspended Table—a massive calcite formation that seems to float above the lake—is a highlight of the tour, appearing to defy gravity in this surreal environment.
As your guide carefully adjusts the lighting to spotlight different features, shadows dance across the chamber walls, drawing out the depth and detail of these ancient formations. It's a moment that leaves many visitors speechless.
While the descent and return involve some physical effort, the pace is gentle and the guides are patient and encouraging. The return journey up the doline is taken at your own pace. Children especially find Lake Cave enchanting—its mystery and stillness spark the imagination and create memories that last a lifetime.
Before or after your tour, spend time exploring the free Lake Cave Information Centre, where you can learn more about cave formation, fossils, geology, and conservation. There's also a hands-on mock 'Cave Crawl' where kids can test their bravery in a miniature tunnel before heading underground for real.
